Wide vs Narrow Tires: What Should You Choose?
Tire width can affect handling, comfort, winter performance, fuel economy, and fitment. Use this guide as general information before choosing a different tire size.
Wider Tires
Best for:- More road contact
- Sportier appearance
- Better dry-road grip
- Better cornering feel
Wider tires may reduce fuel economy, may not perform as well in snow or slush, and may require a wider rim.
Narrower Tires
Best for:- Winter driving
- Cutting through snow and slush
- Comfortable ride
- Often better fuel economy
Narrower tires may have less dry-road grip and may not give the same sporty appearance.
For winter driving, a slightly narrower tire can sometimes perform better because it can cut through snow and slush more easily. For dry-road performance, a wider tire may offer more grip, but fitment must always be confirmed.
Always confirm rim width, load rating, speed rating, brake clearance, suspension clearance, and vehicle manufacturer recommendations before changing tire size.
